The 1st Annual Virtual Hot Potato 5K & Tater Tot Trot

In order to comply with current PA Department of Health guidance, we may need to limit registriations for the in-person race.  Therefore, we are excited to offer the 1st Virtual Hot Potato 5K & Tater Tot Trot.  In order to participate, select the virtual options when registering.

Health & Safety Plan

The health and safety of our participants and volunteers is of the upmost importance.

We are currently developing our Health & Safety Plan to make sure we are incorporating best practices and the most current guidance.

Overall Male & Female Winners will receive a medal, trophy and $100 gift card.

Top 3 Male & Female in each 5k age group will receive: Gold Medal + $25 gift card, Silver Medal or Bronze Medal.
Top 3 Male & Female in each Tater Tot Trot age group will receive medals.

Prizes are distributed the day of the race. If you are unable to stay for the awards ceremony, please visit the registration table. If you do not receive your prize the day of the race, your prize must be picked up in person at Sterman Masser Inc. (2 Fearnot Rd, Sacramento, PA) before July 10, 2020 or it will be forfeited.

About

Sterman Masser, Inc. is excited to host Hegins Valley’s 7th Annual Hot Potato 5K Run/Fun Walk, which will again include the 6th Annual Tater Tot Trot for kids ages 12 and under. It is one of SMI’s core beliefs that community involvement is essential for the success and continued growth of the Hegins Valley community. In addition, one of our basic corporate commitments is: “To enhance the lives in our community by being the potato products company of choice." To fulfill these beliefs, we have been searching for a way to enhance our community in a larger way. The establishment of this race in 2013 has created what we hope will be a long-standing tradition while promoting a healthy lifestyle for our community.

With that in mind, the Tri-Valley Youth Activities Fund was established in 2015, a non-profit 501c(3) charitable organization.  The purpose of the TVYAF is: "To enhance the quality of life for all members of our community and surrounding areas by promoting, restoring and constructing the infrastructure needed to attract and retain the best and brightest so that the vitality of our region is sustained for generations to come." The TVYAF board awarded over $90,000 in grant monies raised from 2014 to 2018 to Tri-Valley youth and children associations.  

In 2019, the TVYAF board took another step forward in their mission by purchasing the former Fearnot Assemby of God church builiding and gym facility, establishing the Mountainside Community Center.  Proceeds from the 2019 and the upcoming 2020 race will go to refurbishing and maintaining this facility to help provide additional practice space for many of the youth organizations in our area.  The board will continue to look at ways to expand the use of Mountainside, benefitting all members of our community.

Due to the cancelation of this year's event, registration is closed. 

If you have already registered via RunSignUp, you can process your refund or donate your registration fee by clicking on the REGISTER! link and following the instructions.

Participants can pick-up registration packets on day of event from 7:00am to 8:45am. COVID-19 Screening forms will need to be filled out and/or submitted at this time.

Registrations will be accepted the day of race. Registration will close 20 minutes prior to the start of the race.

All participants who register before May 2nd will be guaranteed “The Hot Potato 5K Run/Fun Walk” official T-shirt and Goodie Bag. Registrations received after this date will receive a Goodie Bag, but a T-shirt is not guaranteed.  We always try our best to have a shirt for everyone.

Students ages 13 to 18 should register using the "Hot Potato 5k - Students 13 to 18" registration link to receive the flat rate of $25.

Children ages 12 and under can sign up using the "Tater Tot Trot and Hot Potato 5K - Children 12 & under" registration link. The child will be registered for the Tater Tot Trot and you can elect to also sign he/she up for the 5K at no additional charge. Your child is invited to run in either or both; however be sure to select "YES" when asked if he/she would like to be included in the 5K or be sure to inform the registration staff the day of the race so that we can be sure that your child's time is recorded.
